Dark Mode Logos: Reversed Versions That Glow (Guide)
Dark mode logos need reversed mono versions, so build glowing marks that stay sharp on black backgrounds.
Why reversed versions glow
Over 70 percent of phone users enable dark mode at night, and standard dark logos vanish on near-black backgrounds in 2 seconds. A mono white version with 90 percent brightness restores instant legibility across apps, video players and code editors.
Reversed marks also cut eye strain because soft white strokes at 4 pixels thick read cleaner than full-color gradients on black. Make the logo online in both dark-on-light and light-on-dark lockups before shipping any interface assets.
How to build dark-ready marks
Thicken strokes by 1 pixel and open letter spacing 5 percent so white type does not bleed on OLED screens at 360 pixels wide. Drop shadows, add a subtle 20 percent glow and keep contrast above 7 to 1 for premium readability.
Export SVG plus PNG at 1000 pixels with transparent grounds and test on 3 blacks: pure, charcoal and navy. Keep a 1-color white master for footers, splash screens and 16 pixel favicons.
