Logo file formats: AI, EPS, PDF, SVG, PNG explained
Master AI, EPS, PDF, SVG and PNG logo files so you always send print-ready vectors and crisp web images.
Five formats every owner needs
AI files hold editable vectors for designers, while EPS and PDF carry print-ready vectors that shops trust. SVG serves websites with code-based sharpness, and PNG delivers fixed pixels for screens, docs and social posts.
Printers want vectors at 300 dpi with fonts outlined, while websites need images under 300 kilobytes. When you generate your logo online, save all five formats at once and archive copies for at least 7 years.
Print versus web in practice
Send EPS or PDF for business cards at 3 dot 5 by 2 inches, banners over 6 feet and shirts. Vectors scale from 16 pixels to 20 feet without blur, unlike a 1000 pixel PNG that fails past 3 inches at 300 dpi.
Use SVG under 50 kilobytes for headers and PNG at 1200, 1800 and 2400 pixels for sharing. Label folders by year and size, keeping 10 or fewer active files so teams find the right version in 30 seconds.
