PNG vs JPG for logos: transparency decides

PNG keeps logo transparency and sharp edges while JPG blurs text and fills backgrounds with white.

PNG vs JPG for logos: transparency decides

Transparency decides the winner

PNG supports transparent backgrounds and sharp lines, making it ideal for logos over photos, colors and patterns. JPG always adds a white box and compresses edges, causing halos around text smaller than 24 pixels.

JPG files can be 70 percent smaller, with a 1200 pixel photo under 200 kilobytes versus 600 kilobytes for PNG. When you generate your logo online, choose PNG for masters and export JPG only for team photos wider than 1600 pixels.

Export settings that protect quality

Save PNG logos at 2000 pixels wide with transparency for websites, decks and video overlays. Use 24 bit color to preserve gradients across 16 million shades without banding on 4K screens and 10 foot banners.

Choose JPG quality 80 for photos where the logo appears inside a 1920 by 1080 scene. Never resave JPG logos more than 3 times because each save at 60 percent quality permanently softens edges and text.
